Antonio Valencia has no intention of taking it easy when he gets back from a career-threatening ankle injury in 2011.
The Manchester United winger has progressed well since breaking and dislocating his left ankle back in September and could return to action in February.
And the 25-year-old has no intention of following the example of some of South America’s biggest stars by sitting out the Copa America in July.
Ecuador have been drawn in a tasty group with Brazil, Paraguay and Venezuela for a tournament that is an important prelude to the World Cup qualifers starting in the autumn.
‘The Copa America will bw a test for everyone and I hope to bring joy to my country,’ said the 25-year-old.
Impressive recovery: United hope the Ecuadorian could be back by February
‘The injury was very hard. To see the ankle twisted was shocking, but that’s football. Today things are going well and I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me.’
Brazil stars Kaka and Ronaldinho were among the players who dodged the 2007 Copa America under pressure from their clubs after long seasons in Europe.
Sir Alex Ferguson let midfielder Anderson go to the tournament shortly after he had signed from Porto and Gabriel Heinze took part shortly before clinching a move to Real Madrid

Slow and steady bro..dont rush it ok!! Aku harap kau cepat recover but jangan la terlalu meletak harapan terlalu tinggi..take it one step at a time!! Bila kau dah sembuh sepenuhnyer kau tolong Man Utd menang EPL and Champions League dulu and pastu baru la pikir pasal COPA AMERICA pada Julai nanti!! And masa tu aku akan bagi sokongan kat kau ok..ekeke!! For now..just concentrate on your rehab to fix your broken ankle and hopefully on February u can make your comeback with a BANG!! Good luck and happy new year to you LUIS ANTONIO VALENCIA!!
