Manchester United v Arsenal: Sir Alex Ferguson prepares to pass Sir Matt Busby as club’s longest-serving manager

He once claimed many wished to see him “in my bath-chair on Torquay beach” and now Sir Alex Ferguson admits he feels like a “dinosaur” as he prepares to surpass Sir Matt Busby as Manchester United’s longest-serving manager.

On Monday evening, when United face Arsenal at Old Trafford, Ferguson and Arsène Wenger will take their seats in the dugouts having collectively served their clubs for 38 years.

Six days later, Ferguson will take United to Stamford Bridge on the day when his service at the club overtakes the 24 years, one month and 13 days Busby spent at Old Trafford during his two spells as manager.

He has survived chants of “Fergie out” from the Stretford End, taken himself to the brink of retirement and been re-energised by the youth within his squad, yet even Ferguson admits his looming milestone is not one he expected to pass.

“I could never have imagined that I would surpass Sir Matt’s longevity.” Ferguson said. “When I came here, my main thought was to win the league and that was my driving force.

“I couldn’t visualise that I would end up with 24 years behind me, going into my 25th year. I could never have imagined that in a million years.”

Sir Alex akan melepasi rekod yg dipegang oleh Sir Matt Busby sebagai manager iaitu selama 24 tahun sebulan dan 13 hari....hopefully Sir Alex akan bertahan hingga ke angka 30..ekekeke!!
