Gillespie ketika bersama Man Utd di tahun 1991 |
Former Glentoran teammate Paul Leeman has praised Keith Gillespie, who has signed for Conference National side Darlington for a month, for being "a great role model".The former Northern Ireland international and Manchester United player will join the Quakers for their trip to Wrexham on Saturday."Obviously the situation at Glentoran with finances meant that we couldn't keep him which was unfortunate but I am glad to hear that he has moved on and got another club and he is still playing the game."
Gillespie, who won 86 international caps, was declared bankrupt last month.A Revenue and Customs spokesman confirmed it had taken action against the player over a tax bill but refused to say how much the service was owed."Keith's a clever player", Darlington manager Mark Cooper told the club's website."He's still got a little bit of pace so it was a non-brainer for is to sign him".The 35-year-old player's career began at Manchester United where he emerged during the early 1990s alongside David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs. He then left for Newcastle United before having later spells at Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Sheffield United.Darlington finished bottom of Football League Two in 2009-10.The Conference National is the lowest nationwide division in the English football pyramid.
