MU Kapitan Scores the Equalizer

ON a day when six Santa Claus lookalikes turned up at Villa Park, trust Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to play Scrooge. 

The festive figures were presented to the crowd at half-time and two goals in six frantic second-half minutes had Villa and their fans believing Christmas had come early.The cloak of invincibility which United have worn around these parts for the last 15 years – the last time they lost here was in 1995 – was around their ankles. In Ferguson’s words, they were all over the place.

Ferguson’s mood turned even gloomier when substitute Federico Macheda lost possession, allowing Young and Stewart Downing to combine and Albrighton rammed in at the far post. Game over? Not as long as Ferguson has breath in his body. Rio Ferdinand saw a volley turned off the line by Albrighton before Macheda, who had announced his Premier League arrival two seasons ago with a late winner against Villa, hit a fi erce finish from Darren Fletcher’s lay-off. 

Villa were in panic mode and when Nani curled in a cross Nemanja Vidic flung himself headlong at the ball and Friedel was beaten again. Boss Gerard Houllier was defl ated, willing his young side not to capsize – a different feeling from when he was celebrating his side’s second goal. 

He admitted: “When that goal went in I thought that was it. But it’s Manchester United you are playing against and you are never safe.” Ferguson was just about plugging in the hairdryer at that point: “We were all over the place. I could have taken 10 players off. We didn’t perform well. But there was life and adventure when I brought on Gabriel Obertan and Federico Macheda.” Humbug, thought Villa’s early Santas.

Still unbeaten and there is still 25 games to go and i dont want us to be panic too early!!
