OWEN HARGREAVES was left heartbroken after his 26-month wait to start a football match again lasted only five minutes.

The 29-year-old, who has suffered tendinitis in his knees and had operations on both, was a surprise choice in Manchester United's side from a virus-hit squad.

But it was clearly too soon as the pace of the Premier League swiftly left him limping off, troubled by his left hamstring and making his way dejectedly down the tunnel for treatment after being replaced by Bebe.

His team-mates, though, immediately backed him to bounce back again.
Defender John O'Shea said: "We feel so sorry for him. He was so looking forward to it and we were really excited for him as well after all the hard work he's put in.
"But he'll be back again, no doubt about that. He's worked very hard to get to this point and I'm sure there'll be a few little niggles, he's just got to get over them quickly."It was two years to the week that Hargreaves had surgery on his right knee.And United boss Alex Ferguson admitted he took a punt on Hargreaves, who had not even had a full reserve game beforehand.Ferguson said: "I took a gamble with Hargreaves but he'd been training really well and I thought by picking him we'd have a compact midfield with experience."But it only lasted a couple of minutes, it was a disaster."While United's medical staff gave Hargreaves the all-clear to play, the Red Devils' chief feels fear may have played a part.
Fergie added: "It is possibly because of a lack of match fitness. Maybe a bit of anxiety at playing his first game had a bit to do with it too. Owen has been training very well and the doctor thought he was fine to play."In the last year of his deal, Hargreaves has much to do to prove he is worth another.

Kesian bebenor dgn si Hargreaves ni!! Dah la menunggu lama dekat 2 tahun utk main game..last2 cuma dapat bermain 5 minit jer!! Tapi at least ni kecederaan hamstring dan bukannya kecederaan kepala lutut sebelum ni. So Hargraeves..be strong and dont give up!!
