You don't drop him, but rest him, says former England midfielder Paul Ince..

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince believes that Sir Alex Ferguson has only been protecting Wayne Rooney all along.The ageing Scot had previously claimed that the 24-year-old forward was having trouble with an ankle injury, only for the former Everton man to rubbish such talk by insisting he was fully fit.Now Ince believes that the gaffer was only shielding the player, whose form has been questionable in the recent past."The last thing Sir Alex wants to do is turn around and say ‘The reason I am not playing Wayne Rooney is because of his marriage problems’," he said, according to The Mirror."We’ve had enough of that for the last four weeks. So maybe he was getting a bit cute."He did that with me many times when he wanted to rest me. He’s said ‘Yeah, Paul’s got a hamstring injury’ when really I was just being rested for a game two weeks down the line. He’s good at doing that."You have to remember that since the World Cup there has been unbelievable pressure on Wayne. Over the last six months he has had it all – ‘England can’t win without Wayne Rooney’, ‘One-man team’, ‘With Rooney we are going to win the World Cup’ and with his own personal problems thrown in it must have been hard."He is still a young lad. He’ll have had his own disappointment at the way things went in South Africa and then you’ve got his marriage situation."Shedding light on how Rooney might have felt after contradicting Ferguson, Ince added: "No matter who you are, when you put ­something in the papers and see the way it has come out, you are just dreading going into training the next day."You really, really are. But in my time, you were going to get the hairdryer and you knew what was coming."As the years have gone on and the game has evolved, Sir Alex would admit he has become more mellow."He has still got that fire in his belly and I think it will be a case of Rooney going in to see Sir Alex straight away. They’ll have a chat and they will do it the right way."Recent form aside, Ince believes that Rooney remains as one of the best in the world at what he does, following last season's exploits in scoring 26 goals in the Premier League.He said: "Rooney is one of those players who might not play well for 89 minutes then wins you the game in injury time. I’ve seen it with [Eric] Cantona at United, I’ve seen it with 'Gazza' [Paul Gascoigne] for England."Players that even during a bad spell can still produce a moment of magic."That’s why you can’t think of him like the average player. You don’t drop people like that. You rest them."You don’t drop Frank Lampard, you don’t drop John Terry. They can do things for you at certain times – and Wayne Rooney is right up there in the top three players in the world."

Kan aku dah cakap..SAF memang gaffer yg jenis protect his own player!! Paul Ince pun dah sokong pendapat aku..dia kan orang lama dalam dunia bolasepak ni and pernah dibimbing oleh SAF pun!! Yang paling aku suka qoute si Ince ni...YOU DONT DROP HIM BUT YOU REST HIM!! Rooney ni aku rasa belum dapat tangkap lagi apa yg SAF buat utk dia..nanti lama kelamaan pasti dia sedar apa yg gaffer buat tu utk kebaikan dia gak and MU adalah satu2nya kelab utk dia!!
