GIGGSY : 20 years and counting....!!

John O’Shea believes team-mate Ryan Giggs can carry on playing until he’s 40.

Almost two decades on from his United debut, the veteran midfielder broke yet another record on Tuesday night against Chelsea when he came off the bench to equal Sir Bobby Charlton’s total of 606 league appearances for the club.

Unfortunately, the Welshman wasn’t able to prevent the Reds from losing out at Stamford Bridge, but O’Shea knows Giggs’ experience will prove crucial over the coming few weeks. And he’s tipping the 37-year-old to play his part in a few more title races yet.

“Every cliché in the book has been used about the man already and I’m sure they will be said many times again. He’s an absolute legend,” O’Shea told ManUtd.com.

“You’ve seen how the manager has build squads and teams over the years and Giggsy has been a vital part of every single one of them."When you think of the greats, someone like Paolo Maldini springs to mind and his time with AC Milan, but I think you could say Giggsy has almost gone past him; the speed and the balance he still shows to go past whether it be an old, experienced defender or a new up and coming young, strong defender is incredible.

“His physical shape hasn’t changed since I’ve known him and he looks after himself so well. Depending on injuries he could easily carry on although I’m sure he just wants to take it one season at a time."He’s enjoying his football so much at the minute so I can’t see why he couldn't [continue until he’s 40], but I’ll let him decide on that.”

Hari ini 2hb March 2011 genap 20 tahun sejak Giggsy membuat penampilan sulung dalam kancah liga perdana England utk United. Debut belaiu adalah ketika menentang Everton di Old Trafford pada 2hb March 1991 dimana dia masuk sebagai pemain gantian!! What and achievement...20 tahun with the same club!! Aku pun setuju gak dgn apa yg dikatakan O'shea dan aku percaya Giggsy mampu utk terus bermain hingga umur 40 tahun sama seperti Van der Sar dan Sheringham!! You are TRUE LEGEND and nobody will ever perform and be able to surpass you..you are ONE of a kind and that's why you are my IDOL!! Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs says he was "p***ed off" when Chelsea won the Double last season.

Giggs is still bitter about Carlo Ancelotti's men ruining his summer after taking United's title and completing the Double.

He said: "I don't think about the titles I've won. I just look at the future.

"Last year, for example, when Chelsea won the Double - it winds you up. You don't want it to happen again. You don't want to feel like you did last summer.

"You want to feel like the year before when you won the league. It's not the fear of failure. It's just craving that feeling of winning the title.

"We lost by one point last year and it stays with you.

"You go on holiday, trying to enjoy yourself with the kids, and you do, but then you have a quiet moment, it comes back to you what happened and, I'll say it, you're p****d off. You're on holiday and you're just p****d off."

Ryan Giggs has signed a one-year extension to his contract, in a deal that will see the winger complete his 21st season as a first-team player.

Giggs signed professional forms with United in 1990, making his debut in March 1991.  In that time he has made a club record 862 appearances, scoring 158 goals.  He has won 11 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, two Champions Leagues, one Super Cup, an Intercontinental Cup and a Club World Cup.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "You run out of words to describe Ryan Giggs.  He is a marvellous player and a wonderful man.  To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level in such a physically demanding position at his age requires a special person.  He is still turning in man of the match performances and his experience is so vital for the younger players in the squad."

Ryan Giggs said: "All I’ve ever wanted to do is play for United and I’ve been lucky enough to do that for 20 years.  It’s great to know I’m still contributing to the team’s success and I feel I’ve got a lot to offer on and off the pitch.  This is an exciting time to be involved with so many good young players coming through."

If there is one thing Manchester United haven't been short of in their extraordinary history, it's great players.

And in a special poll United fans have voted for Ryan Giggs as the club's greatest ever, beating legends like Eric Cantona, George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton.

Giggs has endeared himself to millions of United fans worldwide with his magnificent career, which has now lasted more than 20 years.

The Welshmen made his United debut in 1991, and in the two decades since he has helped the Reds to 11 league titles, four FA Cups and two European Cups.

His finest hour came in 1999, when he scored a stunning winner in an FA Cup semi-final replay against Arsenal at Villa Park, which gave United the impetus to go and win an unforgettable treble.

Despite all his achievements, Giggs admits he was surprised to top the poll.

He said: 'Obviously it’s all down to opinion and everyone is going to have a different view, but when I got told I genuinely couldn’t believe it to be honest, especially because there have been so many great players here. I’m not finished yet though – I feel great and I hope I can carry on for a while longer.'

'I honestly don’t know where the time has gone – and I’ve already had quite a bit of stick about it.

'There was an article in the paper about it being 20 years since my debut and they had some stats in there which the lads were killing me about – Rafa (da Silva) and Fabio were only about eight months old at the time, and (Arsenal’s) Jack Wilshere wasn’t even born!

'The time has gone very quickly – my twenties in particular seemed to fly by. Since turning 30, though, I’ve been able to enjoy and savour things a lot more. You’re more mature when you get to 30 and I think you experience things better.'

The longevity of his career at the top means Giggs will always be included in any British football hall of fame. From the moment he burst on to the scene as an exciting teenager, through to the current day, he has embodied all that remains good about the game.

There will certainly be United supporters, particularly those of a certain vintage, who insist the vote should have been won by one of their legends of the 1960s like Best or Charlton.

And there will surely be a few eyebrows raised at the omission of Duncan Edwards, who was considered by many to be the best player in the world before he tragically died at the age of 21 after being involved in the Munich air crash, and Denis Law, who is still thought of as the king of Old Trafford by a generation of fans.

But few would begrudge Giggs, BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2009, picking up yet another award.

As he was given the award, Giggs reflected some more on the past, saying: 'I remember getting into the team at 17 and looking around at senior players like Brucey (Steve Bruce), Pally (Gary Pallister) and Incey (Paul Ince) and thinking, "How old are they?". And they weren’t that old at all! When you’re starting off, where I am now is a million miles away.

'To be honest, it doesn’t really feel like I’m 37; I have some great banter with the young players and still think of myself as just one of the lads.'

Asked to name his own personal top three, Giggs picked team-mates past and present. 'Paul Scholes first, Roy Keane second and Peter Schmeichel third,' he said. 'There have been some unbelievable players here down the years – Best, Law, Charlton; Duncan Edwards... so many.

'But I’ve gone for the ones I’ve played with, purely because I’ve seen what they did first hand and what they bring to the team.'

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who has been like a father figure for Giggs over the years, said he wasn't surprised by the results of the poll, which was voted on by readers of the club's official magazine, Inside United and website, ManUtd.com.

Ferguson said: 'Longevity always comes into play in these things, and Ryan’s been around for more time than any other player here. He recently appeared in his 600th league game, which is an exceptional achievement. That won’t be done again, not by one player at the same club.

'And then we can talk about his performances, which have been top class for 20 years. Even now, at the age of 37, he’s amazing.

It’s quite something to be named number one, isn’t it, considering the competition? When you look at the galaxy of stars that have been at this club, this is a huge honour for Ryan.

'There are some who would maybe put others ahead of him – players such as Denis Law, George Best or Eric Cantona – but nobody can argue he doesn’t deserve to be in that top bracket. Polls like these are so difficult, purely because Manchester United have had so many top footballers over the years.

'I get asked about Ryan all the time, and I always find myself talking about the same attributes – the way he’s looked after his physique, the way he constantly strives to better himself and the way he applies himself to make sure he succeeds. He’s a fantastic role model for young players.'

For 70 minutes Blackpool, the team who still wash their own training kit, whose squad cost just £3.5m to assemble and whose top earner picks up just £10,000 a week – one tenth of Wayne Rooney’s salary – were on the verge of a victory that would have ripped the heart out of United’s title challenge but warmed the hearts of the rest. 

Instead, United’s legendary powers of recovery shone through from 2-0 down as Javier Hernandez, on for the under-performing Rooney, and two-goal hero Dimitar Berbatov saved them from the brink of disaster, rescued their unbeaten record and earned an improbable victory that puts them five points clear at the top of the Premier League. 

For Blackpool it was heartbreaking, but perhaps on reflection they will still see this performance as an incredible achievement to go alongside their two victories over Liverpool that have already marked Ian Holloway’s men out as something different. 

It was United’s greater strength in depth, and their never-say-die spirit, that was the difference in the end because after Craig Cathcart and DJ Campbell scored in the first half for Blackpool, subs Giggs and Hernandez changed the game in 16 dramatic minutes. 

Berbatov got the first after 72 minutes, Hernandez the second two minutes later from a Giggs pass and then Paul Scholes set up Berbatov again for a remarkable 88th minute winner that at one stage had never looked possible. And that’s why United are still title favourites. 

"We are a team who believe no matter how bad the game, even if it’s 2-0 down, that if we can score one we can score more," insisted Berbatov afterwards. 

"The first half was not too good. You come here and it’s not such a friendly ground, the pitch is not like Old Trafford, the ball is jumping around and Blackpool played a very good game and could have scored more. But we told ourselves at half time we could do it and we did. It was the team spirit that won the game." 

United, who lost Rafael late on to a worrying head injury that saw him sent to hospital with concussion, have now gone 28 Premier League matches without defeat, which is why manager Ferguson was concentrating on his team’s powers of recovery rather than their miserable start. 

"I have to say that it’s down to the history of the club, we never give up," he said. 

"We changed at half time and Giggs made a tremendous difference, we started playing our way and were deserved winners in the end." (continues..)

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson paid tribute to Ryan Giggs after their draw at Tottenham.

United’s all-time record appearance-maker notched his 856th outing for the club at White Hart Lane on Sunday, reaching the 600 mark in league appearances.

“He’s an incredible human being,” beamed the United manager to manutd.com. “He’s a credit to the game and an example to any player in the game. We use him as a role model because he is a great role model.

“Looking after yourself and preparing to be a top player requires a lot of sacrifice, and Ryan has made them throughout his career here. He’s just an incredible human being.”

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to his longest serving player Ryan Giggs, lauding the evergreen Welshman as “an incredible human being”.

Although discussions are yet to begin over a new one-year contract extension for the 37-year-old, but both parties have suggested it is a formality, and ahead of their crucial encounter against fellow Premier League title challengers Tottenham Hotspur, Ferguson was fulsome in his praise of the midfielder.

Ferguson told Sky Sports: "Ryan is an incredible human being.

"He defies the logic of forwards when he plays at the level he did last Sunday. Obviously, we know how to manage him.

"He doesn't play every week but he makes a contribution to the team. He did that in the second half last week. He was outstanding.

"His fitness was fantastic. He kept going for the whole 90 minutes. He has been doing that for two decades.

"No other player has ever done that - or likely to. He is quite an amazing man.

Speed Still Want Giggsy..!!

New Wales manager Gary Speed has suggested that Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs should be involved in the coaching set-up, with the view to him becoming the next national team boss.

Speed took over as Wales boss in December and has since tried to tempt Giggs, as well as Robbie Savage, Danny Gabbidon and Simon Davies, out of retirement to add some much needed experience to what is otherwise a very youthful squad.

However, with Giggs coming towards the end of his playing career at the age of 37, Speed is now keen to involve the veteran in his coaching set-up with the national team.

“I spoke to Ryan and he doesn't know what his future plans are yet,” Speed said.

“I'm not sure he'll be coming back to play but if we can get Ryan on board and involved with the infrastructure in anyway it would be great.”

Speed also suggested that if Giggs could be involved with the coaching set-up with Wales, then he could perhaps be moulded to step into the managerial hot-seat in the future, providing a long term plan for the future of the national side.

“If I move on or go elsewhere then somewhere along the line, then if Ryan is already involved, he might be the perfect one. We need good up-and-coming Welsh managers to go and take the reins.”

Adam Johnson Want to be Like Giggsy..!!

Manchester City winger Adam Johnson wants to emulate the on-field thrills of Manchester United iconRyan Giggs.

Johnson feels like a caged bird at the minute.

He wants to run free and entertain but Roberto Mancini has a system and a shape which requires discipline and does not accommodate someone who simply wants to roam.

Johnson told The Sun: "I like attacking, scoring goals and creating goals and pleasing the fans.

"When I play I just want to excite fans and give them something to watch."

Johnson modelled his game as a kid on David Ginola, who he used to watch train for Newcastle.

Giggs remains another hero of his.

The City ace added: "When I went to games I wanted to watch the attacking flair players. David Ginola and Ryan Giggs were heroes of mine.

"All my family supported Sunderland but I played for Newcastle from when I was 10 to 12 and Ginola and Faustino Asprilla were the players at that time. I used to go with my dad and watch them train.

"It was seeing Ginola play and Giggs that made me want to play like them.

"Giggs is a real crowd pleaser and fans adore him for how he plays and that inspired me to play the way I do."

Henderson : Giggs Is A Hero

Jordan Henderson's first taste of professional football was being photographed on the shoulders of Ryan Giggs as a three-year-old. Giggs and his then Manchester United team-mate David Beckham were the players that Henderson looked up to as a youngster.
Now 17 years after that holiday snapshot, Giggs is still playing with distinction for the Red Devils while Henderson could win his first England cap in Wednesday's international friendly with Franceat Wembley. The Sunderland midfielder has had a meteoric rise up the footballing ladder but gave another demonstration of his potential in Sunday's shock 3-0 away win over Chelsea.
"I would say the two people I liked the best when I was young were Giggs and Beckham," said Henderson. "When I was really young, I met Giggs on holiday, which is a big thing when you are young. I'm not sure where it was. I can just remember my mum has got a picture of me on his shoulders and I was only a baby."

There was never a chance of going to Newcastle or Middlesbrough. My dad is a Sunderland fan, all my friends are Sunderland fans and I am a Sunderland fan.

"Giggs and Beckham were the two I looked up to and I liked the way United played. I have not tried to emulate anyone as a player. I have liked players and watched them - like Beckham and Giggs - but I have never tried to play like someone.

Henderson also has his feet firmly on the ground and is adamant he will not get carried away with his rapid success. "Mum and dad, who used to be a policeman, have been a good influence on me."
"They have brought me up really well, they have always kept my feet on the ground and not let me get carried away. My mates have also been good with me since I left school. They used to go out but they would tell me not to which is a good thing.
"I didn't really go out much. In any case I had to be back by a certain time, like a curfew. I've never drank or smoked and a good night for me is like last night, watching the highlights of the win over Chelsea.
"Away from football, I like music and myself and Darren Bent and a few of the lads play table tennis at the academy," said Henderson, who also admits he was always destined to play for the Black Cats. "I played for Sunderland since I was seven. I was born in Sunderland, always went to the games."
"There was never a chance of going to Newcastle or Middlesbrough. My dad is a Sunderland fan, all my friends are Sunderland fans and I am a Sunderland fan. I got asked to go on a trial when I was seven and I have been with them ever since."
Henderson's form has inevitably led to speculation that Sunderland will eventually have to sell him, with Manchester United linked with a move.
"I don't think it has affected me. I don't think about it too much," he said, commenting on the rumours. "My best friend is a Manchester United fan, so he's going 'what's going on here, then?' But he's the only one who gives me a bit of banter about it. He probably wants me to join them. I don't know."

MANCHESTER UNITED legend RYAN GIGGS finds the back of the net - despite limping off injured at the weekend.

The Welsh wizard was at Old Trafford today to join boss SIR ALEX FERGUSON in announcing the club will be raising £1million to help save the lives of some the world's most vulnerable children.

Unsurprisingly, there was no mention of troubled WAYNE ROONEY.

Instead Giggs and Fergie spoke proudly about the successful partnership with UNICEF over the past decade which has helped more than 2.2 million children worldwide.

UNICEF Ambassador Fergie said: "If Manchester United and myself can raise awareness of the suffering that children in the world endure, then that can only be beneficial to UNICEF's continual hard work."

Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs faces another spell on the sidelines after aggravating a hamstring injury against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. he 36-year-old had only returned from a two-week absence at the weekend after limping out of the draw at Bolton. But five minutes before the break during Saturday's 2-2 draw, he was headed for the touchline again.

Although Sir Alex Ferguson has not put a timescale on the latest absence, it is clear that Giggs will now be given time to get over the problem after again impressing during the early weeks of the campaign. "The loss of Ryan as a wide player was a big one for us," Ferguson told MUTV."He has done his hamstring again."He got it against Bolton but he had trained all week and had been doing very well. But it has gone again and maybe we need to give him a longer recovery."

Yaaaa itu dia..aku pun dah nampak kilauan piala tu!!! Dah berkali-kali aku tengok MU awal2 musim memang lambat PANAS tapi 3 bulan terakhir mesti MU akan hit TOP gear (lani baru gear 1,nanti naik la jd gear 5..ekekeke!!) Yang aku paling ingat sekali mestila tahun 1996 bila Keegan bersama Newcastle dgn bangganya leading di pertengahan musim dekat 12 poin!!! Last2 apa jadi, MU potong tang corner tu..wakakakaka!!! Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has conceded that he used to hate Liverpool when he was younger.The Welshman turned professional on his 17th birthday on November 29, 1990, during a time when Liverpool were dominating the domestic circuit.But the Merseyside club have since failed to win a league title, as their triumph in 1990 under the guidance of Kenny Dalglish has not been repeated by any of his successors.But United, however, rose steeply under Sir Alex Ferguson as they have since won 11 league titles, four FA Cups, and three League Cups.In the European and intercontinental area, Giggs has been a part of teams that won the Champions League on two occasions, while winning the Uefa Super Cup, the Intercontinental Cup and the Club World Cup each on one occasion. Aku paham perasaan dia coz lani MU kan asik menang je n' tak lama lagi akan melepasi rekod 18 kejuaraan liga yg skrg MU kongsi dgn Liverpool!! So hati dia panas jer la bila aku sebut@citer pasal MU.. Adik aku lak minat Arsenal so dia tak dapat komen banyak la coz last Arsenal menang piala 2004 kot..wakaaka!!! So Giggsy..its a common feeling and i think now you are in happy and glorious mood right?!
